Creeds & Confessions

Our Confessions

Our confession of what God says to His people is not new or unique to ourselves. We confess our faith in the same words as the church of centuries ago: the Belgic Confession (1561), the Heidelberg Catechism (1563) and the Canons of Dort (1618-19). These confessions testify more fully what we believe about the Bible, God, man and salvation.

Our Creeds

In addition to these confessions we confess our faith in the words of the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed and the Athanasian Creed. These creeds were formulated by the universal church councils 1500 years ago. We believe there is a basic difference between the Bible and our confessions and creeds. The Bible is God’s Word; the confessions are the living church’s word. we have confessions because God says a living church must always respond to His revelation in Christ, in unity with each other and with the church of all ages (Matthew 16:15-16; I Corinthians 1:10).
